Artist's Comments

A step-by-step tutorial for creating embossed metal backgrounds on ATCs (or anywhere else, really!).

The tape referred to goes under different names - you'll get it at the hardware store (not your local art shop). It's used to repair metal roofs. It's aluminium, usually, with a sticky black gunky backing, and comes in various widths.

Examples of the technique in use:

No I know how its done! :) Thanks so much! I will definitely have to try this out myself. :)

Enjoy - it's such fun.

Just a note of caution: Keep a pair of scissors only for cutting this tape - they get full of black gunk and can't be used for anything else.

How nice of you to help us all along! And so clearly presented, too! Thanks!

That is an interesting idea. It would also look great with alcohol inks, I think. My only problem would be to find this kind of tape in Germany, I never heard of it.

Try asking at your hardware store - it's a metal tape with a rubbery, sticky backing used to repair corrugated iron roofs, or pipes where you need a watertight seal.

Alcohol inks is a brilliant idea!

Also look at [link] for really interesting effects using copper and ammonia / bleach.
