"Since their beginning, ATCs have been flexible to different styles. They can be simple and use humour; be experimental and shock; be painstakingly created, or done extremely quickly - like a fast sketch. In Europe, youll see a more contemporary, avant-garde style. In the US, more whimsical styles, recalling vintage times and beauty are common.
I was curious, and wondered whether research would bear this rather sweeping distinction out.

I think, without the quotations you wouldn't be able to figure out the cards' origins. I see as many vintage ATCs among European artists as there are contemporary, experimental ones among the US cards, and I couldn't find definite hints to where the cards of the third category are from.
One thing I have considered may be the age of the artist, that influences style and motives. But then again, there are so different ideas and creations, you cannot really nail it down.
At least I can't (and personally, I'd find it a bit disappointing if you could really put the ATCs in bound categories
